Learning it the long way
I'd always liked wine, long before I moved from New Zealand to Germany in 2019. But it wasn't until I started hosting wine tasting evenings for friends that it turned into something closer to obsession. What began as an excuse to share a few bottles I liked turned into vineyard visits, cellar doors, harvest days, more questions than any small producer probably has patience for — and eventually, tastings for colleagues at the company I worked for too, just to keep telling the stories I'd been collecting.
What I noticed was that people didn't just want to drink good wine — they wanted to understand it, and to have something worth saying when they poured it for someone else.
Because "good wine" isn't quite as simple as it sounds. A wine can be highly regarded and beautifully made, yet still not be to your taste. Learning why you like what you like is part of learning about wine too.
The question
Every one of those tastings landed the same way: someone would hold up their glass, look at it a second longer than they needed to, and ask.
"So what's the story with this one?"
It's a good question, because the bottle only ever tells half the story. You can learn a lot from what's inside — the grape, the vintage, the technique. But the why behind it — the winemaker who took over a family plot nobody else wanted, a region rebuilding itself after decades of being overlooked, the decision to pick two weeks early because of a freak frost — that's the part that turns a glass of wine into a conversation.
That question became Kennedy Wine Collective. Vine to Table — the monthly wine experience you're reading about right now — is my attempt to actually answer it, one story at a time.
What I believe
Wine shouldn't be intimidating.
You don't need to know every grape variety, remember every appellation, or be able to identify a wine blind to enjoy it. But knowing a little about where it comes from, who made it, and why it tastes the way it does turns a glass from something you pour and forget into something you actually talk about.
That's what I'm trying to do: make wine something for the dinner table, not just the dinner — approachable, without being made simpler.

Five bottles arrive at your door, each paired with its own tasting card so you know exactly what you're drinking and why it matters, alongside a guide to that month's theme.
